This is the bare essentials to maintaining the integrity of your property. Maintenance service lifts the tree branches off of your roof and walkways to prevent rubbing on structures and vehicles. Maintenance service also gets the street clearance up to code so you are not sited for low hanging branches over the street.

Standard Tree Pruning Service
This procedure is directed at the health and structure of your trees. Standard service includes the removal of unhealthy dead and diseased branches. Lighten and balance canopies to promote good shape, upward growth, endurance to wind and gravity, and good structure. Standard trimming service also includes all maintenance services.

Full Tree Pruning Service
When nothing less than perfect will do. A full pruning service concentrates on aesthetics. While incorporating all aspects of both maintenance and standard service, full service goes much further into detail with removal of all fine deadwood pencil size and larger. Canopy Reduction
The healthy way to top a tree. This procedure is intended to shorten long, skinny branches that have not developed enough girth to support the weight of their foliage. Certain interior limbs selected to be "dropped back" to, and support the life of a branch. This procedure can only be performed on healthy interior branches.

• A tree surrounded by others can grow only through the space available, which is upward. A tree with no competition will spread sideways and get broad and oddly shaped. Either growth pattern can result in branch structure that is not strong enough to stand up to bad weather. Arborists call them “hazard limbs” because they cause damage, tree failure, and danger to people and animals. Of course, the silhouette of those trees is not very attractive.

With professional tree pruning, you end up with proper growth, not a “skinned” look, because as a rule arborists prefer not to remove any more than 25% of the foliage of a single branch, or 1/4th of the total tree foliage in a single year.

Wound Paint
A frequently asked question is about using some sort of “wound paint” on the spot where the branch was severed. The United States Forest Service proved that this is not healthy for the tree. Dressings and paints do not prevent decay, and some microbes actually feed on the “paint”. There are cosmetic dressings that can be safely applied.

New trees need care, too. Good branch structure should be developed early, and so a young tree with dead or split branches benefits from early tree pruning. It will avoid defects in the branches that can be costly to overcome later on. We severely restrict the amount of cutting at one time that we do, so as not to shock the young seedling. We come back at scheduled intervals to encourage the growth and strength of new trees.

This protects the buds that will flower in the current year. Several species are known as “bleeders”. You may see some sap flowing, but it does not damage the tree.
